Night Watch
Made to be both beautiful and brutally effective, this warclub is crafted with a Bubinga haft (equatorial Africa) and a West African Ebony ball. West African Ebony is one of the most prized woods in the world, and the gorgeous black color is the natural color of the wood with absolutely no stain or paint.
Night Watch has an eight-sided design and a 3 1/4" diameter ball. When taking hold of this warclub, one can immediately feel the density and effectiveness of the club.
The club can be wielded in multiple ways: single-handed, double-handed, gripped high on the haft and used in a punching fashion, or with one hand on the grip and the other on the ball to deliver an advancing strike with the spike.
Night Watch is 24" long excluding the 2.2" brass spike. It is accompanied by a custom-made Ghost Maple display stand that is perfectly sized to firmly hold the club, with leather pads at the contact points.
While each warclub is a one-of-a-kind, I am open to making more. Contact me.
Inspiration
The upper haft is inlaid with a raven head carved of West African Ebony, which is flanked by feather imagery inlaid with premium leather.
This raven and feather imagery serve as a reminder that cunning and adaptability are the true keys to survival.
The ability of ravens to adapt has made them one of the most successful animals to live alongside humans in the modern world. They are problem-solvers and opportunistic. Ravens are an extremely successful species that have proven capable of thriving in almost any conditions, and can be found in both the Arcitc and the desert.
Ravens are fierce competitors, protective of their nest and young, very intelligent, and extremely adaptable. This is the inspiration for Night Watch.
Form and Function
The brass spike protruding from the pommel is both beautiful and businesslike, providing an important option should an opponent advance inside the warrior's swing radius. A skull above the grip area is inlaid with premium leather and adorned with brass tacks serving as watchful eyes. Additional brass tacks are used to decorate the mid haft.
The handle grip area is tightly wrapped with leather bolo cord, chosen to provide excellent grip even when soaked with rain, sweat, or blood. The bottom of the grip area is finished with leather lace and beads.
