Colorado on My Mind

A tribute to the great State of Colorado, I made this piece for a local charity auction. It is crafted of Cherry hardwood with semi-precious stone inlay and 24K gold leaf.

The blue sky is inlaid with beautiful Sleeping Beauty turquoise that comes from the Sleeping Beauty mine outside of Globe, Arizona. The snow-capped mountains are inlaid with Howlite, while the blue river is inlaid with Blue Apatite. The bottom text is carved and filled with white resin. The Colorado C, tree and elk are painted with acrylic paint. The sun and rays are gilded with 24K triple gold leaf, which makes a bold statement in any space.

This piece represents my love for Colorado: the blue skies, abundant sunshine, and snow capped mountains. And of course the elk, which is a familiar sight, especially in Rocky Mountain National Park.

The piece measured 1.06 thick and is 20 inches in diameter.
