Soul Taker
The name of this warclub is a homage to David Goggins (U.S. Navy SEAL) and has personal significance to the warclub owner.
Made to be both beautiful and brutally effective, this warclub is crafted with a Jatoba haft (Central America) and a West African Ebony ball. West African Ebony is one of the most prized woods in the world, and the gorgeous black color is the natural color of the wood with absolutely no stain or paint. Soul Taker has an eight-sided design and a 2 15/16" diameter ball.
When taking hold of this warclub, one can immediately feel the density and effectiveness of the club. The club can be wielded in multiple ways: single-handed, double-handed, gripped high on the haft and used in a punching fashion, or with one hand on the grip and the other on the ball to deliver an advancing strike with the spike.
Soul Taker is 23.3" long excluding the 2.1" copper spike. It is accompanied by a custom-made Cherry hardwood display stand that is perfectly sized to firmly hold the club, with leather pads at the contact points.
While each warclub is a one-of-a-kind, I am open to making more. Contact me.
Inspiration
Soul Taker tells the story of a warrior at the dawn of a new day, as depicted on the pommel.
The fracture above the grip area indicates conflict and stress confronting the warrior, with red paint on the wire wrap providing a reminder of what is at stake.
The top of the haft reveals the midday sun, shining light on the warrior's actions.
As the day gives way to the starry night, indicated by the Ebony ball and brass pins, the warrior rests his head with a peaceful heart knowing his family is safe.
Form and Function
The copper spike protruding from the pommel is both beautiful and businesslike, providing an important option should an opponent advance inside the warrior's swing radius.
The club is adorned with copper and brass tacks on the pommel and haft. The fracture above the grip area is inlaid with premium leather, and the mid haft is wrapped with wire and accented with red paint.
The upper haft is scalloped mostly for decoration, though this also provides a good grip on the upper haft. The handle grip area is tightly wrapped with leather bolo cord, chosen to provide excellent grip even when soaked with rain, sweat, or blood. The bottom of the grip area is finished with leather lace, beads and a simple ribbon.
