Stubbornly Persistent Illusion

This beautiful piece is a cross section from the underground ROOT SYSTEM (!) of a very old Olive tree, which I purchased from a seller in Turkey.

The piece arrived in very rough shape. Not flat, not dry, and ready to split into multiple pieces. I stabilized the piece with UV inhibited crystal clear epoxy, and inlaid Bluebird Azurite and Chrysocolla that came from the Bluebird mine near Miami.

The figure in the wood is gorgeous, and the finished clock is approximately 32" wide, 27" tall and 1.75" thick. The piece includes a high-quality, silent clock mechanism.

Unfortunately my hand was forced to complete this piece prior to the wood fully drying, and there is risk that it may crack or warp in the drying process. Fingers crossed that this beautiful, large clock dries without damage.
